I prefer GoSMS, but if you are using HTC Sense Handcent has the advantage of being able to use the Icon widget without a text label. I'd buy it for that alone, but it is also functionally better with use of pop-up notifications that allow you to make an immediate reply without interrupting what you are doing. From a cosmetic perspective, instead of just a boring tabular list of texts and replies, these apps jazz it up with colour coded speech bubbles like the Iphone.

It even guesses correctly when I miss-type! This was true immediately on installation, and it is supposed to get better the more I use it. When using the standard keyboard I found that I was having to type the whole word more times than not, with this keyboard I am amazed at how quickly it predicts, often after just a couple of characters, and it even makes good guesses for the following word.
